Sheen Community has teamed up with Eat Up Australia as a State Partner and Operational Partner, helping keep one of Eat Up’s vans on the road and supporting its mission to ensure children experiencing food insecurity have something to eat at school.

To kick off the partnership, 33 Sheen team members rolled up their sleeves for a sandwich-making session, preparing an impressive 1,091 sandwiches for students in Melbourne’s Brimbank area.

Working together to help keep kids fed

No child should have to get through the school day on an empty stomach. That's why Sheen Community has joined forces with Eat Up Australia to support its work helping children experiencing food insecurity.

As both a State Partner and Operational Partner, Sheen is supporting Eat Up in practical ways, including helping keep one of its vans on the road. These vans play an important role in getting freshly made sandwiches out to schools and into the hands of students who need them.

The partnership gives the Sheen team another way to get involved and make a meaningful contribution to Victorian communities, while supporting Eat Up's goal of making sure hunger doesn't stand in the way of a child's school day.

The partnership got off to a hands-on start.

A group of 33 Sheen team members came together for a sandwich-making session with Eat Up Australia. Together, they prepared 1,091 sandwiches for students experiencing food insecurity.

It was a simple way for our team to lend a hand. More importantly, every sandwich was made with a student and their school day in mind.

Why Eat Up Australia's work matters

For some children, arriving at school without food is a regular reality.

At the schools Eat Up supports, one in three children arrive without something to eat. Hunger can make an already busy school day even harder.

Eat Up Australia helps by providing free lunches to students in need. Through this partnership, Sheen Community is helping to support reaching more Victorian children.

The team’s efforts quickly extended beyond the sandwich-making session. Just two days later, the 1,091 sandwiches were heading to schools across Melbourne’s Brimbank area.

These schools had identified food insecurity among their students. The sandwiches provided practical support for children who may otherwise have faced the school day without something to eat.

The session helped turn a few hours of volunteering into direct support for local students.
