Although repairing accident damaged cars is our business, at Sheen we are committed to road safety. Every day we see the results of impatience, rash decisions, badly maintained vehicles, speed and other factors that bring about collisions and personal injury.

Today's motor cars are sophisticated pieces of machinery with a great deal of emphasis on safety. Most are fitted with one or more airbags, ABS brakes, traction control seat belt pre-tensioners, crumple zones front and rear, side intrusion bars and many other features that are designed to protect the passengers.

However the designers can only do so much - and it is us as drivers that can make a difference. In today's world things change rapidly and we are often under stress and time pressure from many aspects of our lives. But impatience while driving can and will cause accidents, so we all must find ways to approach our driving in a calm and unflustered way.

Another extremely important aspect of road safety that is often neglected is maintenance - things like regular servicing of suspension, tyres, wheel alignment and brakes are critical - and can play a vital role in an accident situation. Other safety-related items such as your lights and indicators should also be checked regularly.

In the event that you are involved in a collision, the integrity of your car's structure and systems can be affected, so it is imperative that your repairer has the necessary expertise and equipment to put your car back on the road as it was designed. At Sheen we have and we will.

So, while you're behind the wheel, be patient, drive within the speed limit, keep to the left or inner lane, leave enough space between you and the car in front and be aware of what's going on around you (use your mirrors) .
